    kids on flight entertainment

Were off to orlando in December and I'm wondering since the new restrictions on what you can take on board ( no mp3's gameboys ds )what kind of things do you do to keep kids occupied. I know there are films to watch and they can read but 9 hours is a long time to keep them amused. Any suggestions as ours don't sleep a lot of the flight.

you can now take these tings on board as long as the bag you travel with is within the size restrictions. All these items are relevently small so there shoud be no problem fitting them in a small bag.
I actually find that the kids are more restless waiting at the airport than on the actual flight. Also wprth taking a book as whilst the aircraft is waiting to take off and waiting to land (which can sometimes be a long time) all electrical items must be swiched off and the planes entertainment system is also switched off.

Personally, i struggle to read whilst travelling it makes me nauseous but for the kids-colouring,puzzles dot to dot have all gone down really well in the past.
There is an item on the Beeb today about the restrictions being eased next week so you may be OK with electronic stuff.

discman, with their favourite music, gameboys, you can buy cheap travel games, hangman, draughts, chess, snakes and ladders, connect 4, many, and theyre small so dont take up much room, books, we find travel books with so many different things to do, dot to dot, word searches, really good theyre in asda and other shops, not expensive

if the children are small it's a good idea to have small wrapped up games, toys and activities to give them periodically during the flight

if they are a little bigger then perhaps a new much wanted ds or playstaion game will keep them thrilled for a few hours

not sure who your flying with but if it's with virgin you get your own seatback tv with movies and games

finally i know nine hours is a long time but when you take off the time eating lunch and snacks it doesn't seem so bad

try not to worry too much

On the news this morning, they said that the restrictions could be lifted next week, so things should be back to normal by December...[msnsmile2]

Is there a 'normal' anymore with this situation?

Even though there will be some relaxing of the carry on rules next week, I very much doubt that we will ever go back to the pre-August 2006 position.

I have just rang First Choice who we are travelling with next week and i was told no reading books.
There is a downloadable page from the Manchester airpoet website for you to view what you can and cannot take http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/w...SecurityUpdate

If the link is deleted go to the 'Manchester airport home page' click 'Security Procedure Changes', then 'attached downloadable file'

The hardest part for me is the wait before the flight.

Think this is where kids get most bored or want/want/want etc

Usually make sure we have some books/dot to dot etc and of course the DS/PSP or similar.

And then of course we have something for the kids [msnsmile2]

Thanx for all your suggestions. I will be keeping and eye on all the updates. Have just had to buy new bags to take on flight. The sizes are really hard to find but did it eventually.
