    church

We are in Florida at Christmas and at some point want to go to church. Back in the UK we worship at a non-conformist church (Baptist)and wondered if any one has any expierence with churches in Florida. We are staying in Sunridge Woods (not too far from the Chevron garage with great pizza)! Any help greatly appreciated. Teresa

I've never been to church in the USA....but I hear they make visiters most welcome.....maybe you could look online for a church near where you're staying and e-mail to find out more about it....

    Hi Dodge,

I do know of a friendly Baptist which a member of this forum told me about and her family attend when over in Orlando and they were made very welcome. It is a smallish church called Discipleship Baptist Church. The Church is situated just off US 27 about 1or 2 miles south of the I4 intersection on the left hand side - you turn left immediately after the Wagon/truck/lorry sales park. Their address is 125, Cottonwood Drive - there is a large notice just before the turn. Their telephone number is 863-424-3674, and their web address is http://home.att.net/~discipleshipbc The Sunday Morning Service starts at 10:45am, the Evening Service at 6:00pm and the Bible Study is on Wednesday evenings at 7:15pm.

    Hope this is helpful

    Hi,

Can't recommend a Baptist church, but we could recommend a friendly Episcopal church if that is any use. It is on Orange Blossom Trail, about two thirds of the way between Kissimmee and the Florida Mall. It is probably about 30-45 mins drive from the Chevron garage, dependant on traffic. We also found that the Orlando Sentinel has a section for churches to advertise their upcoming services.

If you also go along CR 54, away from US27 you meet up with the Orange Blossom Trail. If you turn left you can head to Kissimmee this way and you go through an interesting town called Intercession, just look at the street names.

    Best wishes,

    Euan

Intercessions City is a small, sprawling town, just a little ramshackle. I think the shooting range and gun-shop are here, on the right as you head toward Kissimmee. This is a map of the area http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=17...e=450171&s=200 .

Intercessions are the prayers said during a church service, for example for the cogregation, government, world, sickly or deceased, etc, etc. Many of the street names are also religious and it just make you wonder about the people that formed the early community. It was originally called Interocean City as it was half way between the Atlanic Ocean and the Gulf.

We were looking for a church to go to last time we were in Florida. In the Christian book shop in Belz factory outlet they suggested First Baptist. I think they said it was on International Drive, may have been Orange Blossom Trail but they said it was the one all the tourists went to.
We wanted somewhere nearer to our home so were going to go to the Pentecostal church in Celebration instead but ended up at Universal Studios for the day (oh well, God understands).
We also heard there was a 'tent' church just north up the 27 from the 192.
We are part of New Frontiers so don't particularly like traditional services.

    Hi
We go to Cornerstone Baptist Church which is on the US27 on the opposite side to Highlands Reserve. They are very friendly and run a creche for little ones during the service.
It is a church "plant" and at the moment meetings take place in a school.
Any more details needed I`ll try to help.
    Best regards

I think Celebration church is Presbyterian -perhaps Julie (Esprit) can verify.

We had a great time at their Christmas Eve service. The soloists were excellent and it was really amusing watching so many people come in wearing red and green-like some new cult-lol!

It was a fantastic start to Christmas though!

    Found this

    Worship:
The Community Presbyterian Church of Celebration completed its sanctuary in fall 2000. A number of religious groups, including Celebration Community Church, Celebrate Family Church, Seventh Day Adventists and Celebration Jewish Congregation meet in various locations throughout the community.
