    Restrictions at Gatwick

We fly mid October but I am getting a little worried now at the thought with all the terrorist activities lately. Anyone tell me what the latest is at Gatwick and what you can and can't take on the plane? I am sure when the time comes I will be OK once I am on the plane but can't stop these niggling worries at the moment

I'm sure you can now take carry on items except any liquid including water.

Try not to worry, you should be feeling very excited now.

    Have a lovely time.

Lisi, please don't worry about the flight, security is very tight, particularly at the moment, many of us who go through it regularly, feel it is over the top.
Terrorists are cowards who don't want to be caught, so why try anything at a time when they are very likely to be caught. They can just bask in the inconvienience and fear they spread.

You are now able to take one small bag (including, not as well as a handbag) with dimentions about 17 inches by 13 inches by 6 inches. Items you cannot take through security are any gels or liquid including make up of any kind, toothpaste, perfume, deodorant etc. You can buy these items in the duty free shops and take them aboard all non US bound flights. You can still not take any gels or liquid to the US. Electrical items are now allowed.
I would however check again nearer the time of your flight as this policy is under constant review.

Don't worry Lisi, we also fly on the 10th. It's probably safer now than it was pre this last scare. If you visit the airline you are flying withs website it should tell you the latest info on what you can take on board with you.

I fly out of Gatwick every week, to Amsterdam. Security is tighter (ie they will want to Xray your shoes, they will want to look at your PC and there are random searches etc etc) and it takes a little longer to get through security. All in all it makes mee feel safer, so I agree with the comments above.

To find out the specific items you can take, look at the BAA Gatwick website for advice http://www.gatwickairport.com/portal...5e186c02865a0/

Personally I wouldn't worry, me and my family are flying out to Florida at the end of this month and we are looking forward to it.

thanks for that. It is silly I know, but we seem to have been planning this trip for so long and I usually get really excited at the thought of another visit to Florida, so don't know why I am so unsure at the moment. You have put my mind at rest though and I will try not to worry and just look at the positive side. They usually x ray me quite thoroughly as I have replacement hips and they often set the alarm bells ringing!! I was just unsure what to take on the plane, but as you say will ring BA nearer the time. I don't suppose anything nasty will happen.

We have just arrived back via Gatwick, on the way out on the 19th August we were NOT able to buy duty free even perfume to take on board or even to buy it on the plane.
On the way home we could buy duty free at Orlando and had to collect it at the gate. On the connecting flight to Dublin the duty free items had to be placed into luggage that was going in the hold.
As for security I would just like to add that on going through the metal detectors they did beep when No1 son went through he had left his belt on, took the belt of went through again no problem but when he went to put his wallet in his pocket he had left his i-pod in there and it didn't beep !!!![msneek]

Travelling from Germany to UK from Munich you always have to take your shoes off. Strange, as they never did that if you were travelling to other countries. Also have to switch on laptops etc to show they work.
