    Which Supermarket?

One of the mundane but necessary things that we have to do during our 3-week stay in Orlando is to top up supplies in our villa at the Orange Tree estate. My preliminary check shows that there are two supermarkets in the vicinity, a PUBLIX (!) and a WINN-DIXIE. We are dedicated Sainsbury's fans back home and while out there want to get the food related shopping got over with quickly so that we can get on with other things. Which of the two supermarkets is more Bri***riendly in terms of ease of shopping?

I think you'll probably find price wise the Publix is cheaper and closer to Sainsburys (you can check out their website at www.publix.com - unfortunately in that area they haven't introduced online shopping yet - be great when they do). You can even make up your grocery list on the site .
Winn Dixie may not have such a good selection but as I haven't been to that branch I can't say for certain.
Somehow when we're on holiday though even the grocery shoppping is ok as we get quite carried away looking at the variety of foods (especially meats and vegetables) and wondering how they should be cooked. Publix usually have lots of leaflets with recipes on them if you are feeling adventurous one day, must admit my culinary expertise on holiday runs to salad and BBq, I get enough day to day cooking at home.

If you normally shop at Sainsbury then you'll be fine in Publix. Very similar.

If you do go in the winn dixie sign up for their card. It gives you discount in what you buy even if it is on special offer.

All our family think Publix at Champions Gate is out of this world. Both my sons-in-law insist on doing the shopping at Publix but will not go through the supermarket doors at home. Wasn,t too impressed with the only Winn-Dixie we used in The Keys so haven,t been to any in Central Florida. The food at Publix seems much fresher and better presented than at Walmart.

We have a Winn Dixie on our doorstep and a Publix a couple of miles up the road at Orange Lakes, and nearly always travel to the Publix. Has squash, marmite, baked beans (at an extortionate price so take your own if someone in the family insists on them!), biscuits and sweets from the UK.

Has an excellent deli and veg section, meat is good and good wine at reasonable prices. Short of a M&S with instant meals can't ask for much more!!

On the subject of M&S - does Florida have an equivalent food store?

I have yet to find one! The only reason my mother would consider moving to Spain - Costa del Sol was because they could do monthly treks to Gib! Also she felt the big department store El Corte Ingles in Malaga sold good food so she was happy to buy from there - 40mins on the train each way!!
