Our daughter was really miffed that they didn't get her to scan her fingers with her AP, and she' was only four! Aileen's fingerprint scanner kept failing for some reason and the CM just would let her through. I don't know if this would be different in the height of Summer, but some of the days were very busy over Christmas and New Year. It seems to be that the CM's would accept that we were a family of four and that the tickets were valid and allow her through. In our experience the CM's at the gates (and elsewhere) tend to use a lot of common sense and not just rigidly obey rules.

We had 10 day world tickets last year and they make you use the fingerprint scanners each time you enter. My wife's first scan got messed up and she failed on every entry from then on, most times they used the signature on the back as verification by asking her to sign a sheet at the gate.

We were asked for photo ID at Epcot when entering for the fireworks which was strange as we already had hand stamps from MK, go figure!

My understanding was you got 10 days entrance to the 4 main parks in a 21 day period (20 days after the first use), you also get unlimited visits to the water parks,Downtown Disney and Disney Wide World of Sports plus the aforememtioned Character Breakfast.

We have a young son and the flexibility of the extra 3 days and not having to worry about coming out of a park early if he is tired outweighs the disadvantages of no carry over to future visits on a 7 day hopper. But as usual it's horses for courses.
