    american airlines odd prices

i just did a search on american airlines web for flights next week with the apparent compulsory stop in boston and it came back as £6000+ for 4??

it then offers a cheaper price if you are flexible and when you click on the link it gives the same boston return but with a dodgy new york flight landing in jfk then flying out of la guarda to orlando for £781 each.

am i missing something here it just showing economy fares and not upgraded? do they fly empty planes

Perhaps their system is up the creek after yesterday?

I don't think there's anything wrong with their system Trev. It's almost certainly a case of a combination of peak travelling season, short notice and 4 seats required. At this stage, 4 heavily discounted seats aren't going to be available.

I haven't tried it but you'll probably find the odd date with a slightly lower price if you search for 1 ticket with flexible dates. It still won't be cheap though because it's peak season. I'll bet Virgin is a very similar price (if not higher).

All the US carriers are currently (ie all last week) in major fares update mode...mainly posting higher fares to take into account recent fuel surcharges. We had over one million fares altered on our system via ATPCO in the past 5 days. That might lead to differing views depending on when you search. Give it a few days to settle down and try again next week.

noted keith. no phil i checked ba they are direct for 800 and virgin is direct for around 7, obviously teletext and the likes of charter travel can beat these prices. strange how no one on teletext ever quotes a ba fare?

AA's website can certainly give some high prices for short notice flights.
However I got four tickets from Manchester - Boston - Orlando (leaving on 26 July and I return next week on same route) for under £500 inclusive of all taxes. BA/Virgin were over £700 for the same dates.

Far from being empty the Man-Bos route is always full and they also have a daily flight to Chicago from Man.

They also have several flights from LHR/LGW.

Plenty of availability on AA from 1 September starting around £530 plus tax.

Both the Chicago & Boston services are pretty full when I use them, which is fairly regularly.
