    Security Alarm

Having recently had a break-in, we asked our MC for a quote for an alarm to be fitted. we have been quoted $400 installation and $34 a month monitoring costs.
A friend has also had one fitted by ADT for $99 and $34 a month.
Can some one give me their experience

We had ours fitted by Brinks for $99 + $34 a month (this includes $5 for warranty/repairs if necessary). They fitted it within a couple of days despite it being Christmas.

I think (?) that ours is Brinks as well and when we set it off accidentally, they were really quick in phoning for the access code.

We have an ADT one. They fitted it for free last year and we pay around $35 a month for it. We've had at least 1 false alarm that I know of when the phone line went down but haven't been charged a penalty although I have heard that you will get charged if you become a nuisance.
The once it did go off the sherriff was round pretty fast apparently.

I think it's the Sherriffs dept that has the authority to charge for false alarms , it seems to be random whether charges are made and some work on a rising scale.
One of the things I liked about Brinks, is if you have a guest who is concerned about using them you can point them to the Brinks website at www.brinks.com and there is a dummy keypad they can play around with before they go so you can show them how simple it is to use.
I know some people who have had alarms installed have had to pay for 3 years monitoring upfront but we didn't have to although we had to commit for 3 years.

Sounds VERY pricey to me! We've got Brinks - there was no installation fee and we pay $35 per month which includes platinum service - so that if anything goes wrong with the alarm we're covered.

We're the same as Angela. Had one fitted with ADT. No installation fee and about $35 per month.

Haven't had any false alarms (that I know about anyway!).

ADT has different offers at different times. They only cover a minimum of openings. You end up paying more for full coverage.
The best deal I have found so far is $650 for the installation (12 openings or 8 on a 2 story) and then $19.99 per month monitoring. his includes a full warranty too. They will also keep the monitoring at $19.99 when you renew.
