well we have a very nice airport at Newcastle with a long runway and very limited choice of long hall flights. Wish we could have something as we always end up in Manchester or London.

I would have thought that if a large airline like Virgin can make a killing on the route with 2 planes per day going then other airlines could also get some passengers. If they don't get much revenue from first and premium how come these are always full on the orlando route!

    Hi DOM

I think the answer to how Virgin do well out of the route is precisely because they have a monopoly (at least amongst scheduled carriers). You only have to look at their fares to see that, particularly in so-called 'Premium Economy'. In my view, their product is nothing special but it doesn't really need to be in that situation. If you want direct flights from Manchester on a scheduled carrier, it's Virgin.

It doesn't necessarily follow that there is sufficient additional capacity to justify another carrier stepping in to challenge them. In fact, both Virgin and a challenger would have to drop prices to attract passengers to their product. Good for travellers but that's not what airlines are in business for.
