does my sixteen year old need a ten year passport or will his five year one be okay, it has eighteen months on it

A five year one will be OK until it runs out and then they'll need a ten year one.

My daughter will be 20 next month and is currently in US on her 5 year passport. She doesn't need a full 10 year one itll nxt July a month before her 21st birthday, we did actually try to see if we could get a 10 year one last time and were told it wasn't possible.
