For a variety of reasons we are going at what I consider peak time (12th August)--I've read somewhere though that the US Schools go back around this time which [u]might</u> mean that the parks are a little bit quieter.
Does anybody have any idea?

Schools in Florida do go back some time at the begining of August but the timetable does vary from county to county. The schools in the rest of the US may not goes back so soon.

We noticed that the parks did seem to be very much quieter during the last 2 weeks of August when we were there last summer.
Last Summer I believe most US schools went back around Aug 4th I did notice it was quieter at the Parks after then.
I think like UK schools the dates vary though so this is just a generalisation.
Sounds like you might have timed it just right Albert

After years of cajoling my husband finally agreed to go to Florida and I booked the last two weeks in January. The hotel we used had a bus service into Disney and I was surprised to see so many children at the hotel. After talking to a family I was told that Disney is seen as an educational trip so families are allowed to take there children out of school in term time.
The best time to go to Disney is around Labour Day 1st 2 weeks in September as all children must be at school for enrolment.
We went again later that year around this time and it was definately quieter.
Thanks all-as Pegasus says we may have timed it just right-not that there's ever a "bad" time to go!
School in northeast are back after labor day which is Sept 6 this year.
