You can use it in the UK (so long as you have an electrical socket adaptor and it can run on UK voltage) but you'd also need to purchase UK maps. Don't forget your duty free allowance is only £145. Best look into the price of UK maps first as they tend to be quite expensive.

Chances are it will only come with an in-car charger, which is almost certainly going to be 12v like the UK cars, so there will be no problem. TomTom models for example, are the same the world over. Don't worry about a mains charger.

As Blott says, depending on the model you might need to purchase additional maps. Again, the higher TomTom models (eg 910) these days come with maps of the whole of Europe, USA and Canada pre-installed, so you wouldn't need to buy anything extra.

As far as duty free is concerned - you already owned the the satnav, and took it with you to the US for your holiday - didn't you?!?!?! [msnwink]

I own two Sat Nav systems, one which i use in the US and one which i use in the UK.
The UK one is a Tom Tom 300 which came with a 12v car adapter which works both in the US and UK. I purchased this one in the UK with GB maps provided but you can buy the US maps as well on a SD card (They are not cheap at around £120)
The US sat Nav is a Garmin which came with US plug and 12v car adapter. This unit only has the US maps on it and i am lead to believe that you can buy thee GB maps but they cost around £130.

I know this is a well intentioned comment, but we can't condone anyone breaking the law by doing this.

You'd be surprised who reads these forums - all walks of life, including customs and excise [msnwink]

Lighten up please - it was intended as a joke, hence the winking face. Sometimes posting on this site is like having a conversation with my mother when I was six years old
