I have just received my two boys new passports in the post - just one week after the application was sent in!!! I am quite amazed and full marks to the passport office for turning things round so quickly. I would have thought the summer was a busy time for them so that makes it all the more impressive.

That's far quicker that when I renewed mine a couple of years ago (and even quicker that getting a photocard driving licence that I've just done - this took two weeks!).

The post office run a scheme whereby they check all the documentation for your passport application, ensuring it is correct, before posting it off special delivery to get your application "fast tracked".
When I renewed mine last year, it came back in 6 days !
I think the service costs about an extra £5 (ish)
Well worth it in my book for the peace of mind.
