On top of the decision to strictly apply their carry-on rules, that looks very harsh Liz. Have they indicated whether you can pay to take extra bags?

Yes you can pay for additional luggage and apparently if you pay online prior to departure there is a discount, can't find any details of price though.
Mark and Jan you can take golf clubs for free[msnwink]

I think World Traveller is the equivalent to economy is it? in which case you will still be allowed 2 cases Patti dont panic.

"World Traveller passengers travelling to or from the US, Canada, Caribbean, Nigeria, Brazil and Mexico will continue to be allowed two checked bags in line with the local government regulations. "

It does say that you can take 1 piece of sporting equipment free of charge in addition, so I suppose the loophole is to take a golf bag full of clothes.

I never understood why you could have the weight for golf clubs free but nothing else. On LTU we can take as LTU members, a piece of sports equipment upto 30kgs on top of our 30 kgs each normal baggage allowance, we have always just taken another bag of this weight with no questions asked.

It cost £120 flat fee to pay for an extra bag. (£96) Discount available if you pre-pay.

Hand Luggage can weight as much as you want as long as it confined to 22 x 18 x 10inches and the passenger can lift it into the overhead locker unaided. Laptop case/briefcase can also be carried on. Checked luggage will be 1 bag 50lb max. plus set of golf clubs or skis. These prices are for long haul.

It's in the Daily Mail on page 38 today

I got this from the Executive Club today.....................

    Introducing a simpler baggage policy

    Dear Mrs ********

We're making a few changes to our hand baggage and checked baggage allowances.

The new baggage policy is easy to follow and will reduce airport queues, making your journey quicker and hassle-free. The policy changes include hand, checked and excess baggage allowances and will be phased in over the next five months. I’ve included a quick guide below, and a link to the complete policy if you'd like to read more.

    HAND BAGGAGE
From 5 July 2006, all customers will be able to take one standard-sized bag (maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm), plus one briefcase, laptop bag or equivalent into the cabin as hand baggage. You must be able to lift your hand baggage into the overhead locker unaided and the briefcase or laptop computer bag or equivalent must fit under the seat in front of you.

    CHECKED BAGGAGE
From 11 October, we will be making changes to the number of bags that you can check in. This will vary according to your class of travel and route. The maximum weight per bag will be reduced to 23kgs to comply with health and safety recommendations.

    EXCESS BAGGAGE
Excess baggage charges will also be standardised from 11 October. A fixed fee, dependent on the journey length, will be charged for each bag in excess of the free checked baggage allowance. In the majority of cases the new charges will be less than those currently levied and a further 20% discount will be available by pre-paying on line at ba.com

You can find out more about the new baggage policy here....................

New simpler baggage policies - major changes announced
We are introducing changes to simplify baggage policies and to reduce queues at the airport. These changes will also bring our policies into line with the UK Department for Transport recommendations and the requirements of the UK’s main airport operator BAA.

The new policies will bring changes to hand, checked and excess baggage allowances and will be phased in from early July 2006 across the airline’s global network.

Hand baggage allowances are changing from 5 July 2006

All passengers will be able to carry one standard-sized bag and one briefcase, laptop computer bags or equivalent on all flights.
The maximum size of the bag, 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22in x 18in x 10in) has been set in line with the UK Department for Transport recommendations.
Passengers must be able to lift their bag unaided into the aircraft overhead locker.
Briefcases, laptop computer bags or equivalent must fit under the seat in front.

    Free checked baggage allowances
A single allowance system based on the number of bags that can be checked in will be introduced from 11 October 2006.

FIRST, Club World, Club Europe and World Traveller Plus
Passengers will be able to check two bags into the aircraft hold free of charge.

World Traveller*, Euro Traveller and UK Domestic
Passengers will be able to check one bag into the aircraft hold free of charge.

Infants will be allowed to check one bag, plus a collapsible baby buggy, into the aircraft hold free of charge in all classes on all routes.
For any connecting journey, the most generous allowance will apply.
Passengers will be able to carry one piece of sporting equipment free of charge in addition to their checked baggage allowance.
A maximum bag weight of 23kg (50lbs) will apply to all bags.

*World Traveller passengers travelling to or from the US, Canada, Caribbean, Nigeria, Brazil and Mexico will continue to be allowed two checked bags in line with the local government regulations.

Excess baggage charges will be standardised across the network from 11 October 2006

All baggage in excess of free checked baggage allowances will be charged at a fixed fee depending on the length of the journey.
From 12 July 2006, passengers who prepay online for their excess baggage will receive a 20% discount on airport charges.
Passengers transferring flights, a single char
