    Internet Connection

    Some advice please...

The villa we're renting doesn't have internet connection, which wasn't an issue for us when we first booked it. Now, however, we've decided to take the laptop with us.

How can I get internet connection, without it costing me an arm and a leg, for the 3 weeks we are there?

Someone mentioned that you could sign up for AOL and cancel when we leave - anyone know anything about that or how I go about it.

    thanks
    Jackie

    you could use http://budgetdialup.com
I would ask the owner First
    If this is okay,
will not cost a lot about $9 I think for 120 Hours
we use it in when we go
    its a little slow
but works very well for us
you will also need a telephone adapter from PC world £8.99
    for your telephone line lead
as the US is different to us here in the UK
    and also a plug adapter
    hope this helps

I suppose you could do a free AOL trial. Sign up before you leave so you know you have got all the settings sorted. They have free dial up numbers you can use in the US

Unless you already have AOL on your laptop, then I would strongly suggest that you avoid using it in Florida. Getting rid of AOL, at the end of your vacation, is nowhere near as simple as you might think or hope. Also, cancelling the membership is not easy either!

If you only need your laptop for emails, then you can possibly do this via your current ISP. You could ask them for the phone number whereby you can access webmail when abroad.

I'm sure that some others will come up with more suggestions that you could try and any that allow you to install and check that it is working before you go to Florida, would be better for you.

Hi we use the budget dialup on our laptop when in Florida. As Gail said it can be a little slow but works well for us too. You can download it to your laptop before you go. Once at the villa you can then connect through the telephone line. I would ask the villa owners what telephone numbers they have as free local call's as once you set it up you will want to connect through a free local call number. It's easy to use.

Good advice about budgetdialup - this is what I would suggest too. I'd mention it to the owner you are renting from but I can't see any problems.

We recommended it to our guests before we installed the internet, and it always worked Ok for them.

WI-FI hotspots, some are free in coffee houses etc.

Depends how much you want/need to use the net.

Usually can find the free local access numbers in the telephone directory which are in the villa. I used to do this before we had our own villas.
