Can any villa owners recommend a good accountant based in the UK who has a specialist knowledge of US and UK tax pertaining to villa ownership.

If you get an accountant that deals with US taxes, then it's unlikely they will know about UK taxes and vice versa as they're two wildly differing tax systems! I think you'll find that most home owners have two accountants, one for each country.

I'm lucky (huh - did I say lucky [:0]) as I work in UK tax. However, although I attempt to understand where the figures on the US return come from, I would never attempt to complete the form myself.

The problem with both systems is that the legislation changes so often and unless you keep up with them, you could miss something important (like a claim or election).

Fortunately, US accountants seem to charge reasonable fees for completing the US tax returns (we paid something like $250 for two returns).

Dazzy, I've finally managed to dig out the details of our US accountant and he is Derek Breen of Byrd & Gantt CPA's (www.mytaxservice.com). He is a UK qualified certified accountant (based in Florida) and probably knows a bit about our system (although I don't think he completes UK returns).

We use Govoni Harding aswell and I can recommend them. Very efficient - they just organise everything when it needs doing so you only have to worry about filling in their info form. They respond quickly to queries to by phone or email.
My normal UK accountant deals with the UK return - it is simply an extra page and he says it is much simpler than the rest of my UK tax return.

We also use govoni harding and also find them very efficient. Our uk accountant just attaches the information they send us to our uk tax returns.
