Virgin is to fly from Glasgow to Florida next summer, marking the airline's first flight from Scotland, The Glasgow Herald reports.
Although Virgin stressed it would only operate ten flights to Orlando during the school holidays and half term, industry voices expressed a hope that the news could signify more to come from Virgin.
The Scottish airline [name edited] flies to Sanford, near Orlando and the area has become increasingly popular with Scottish holidaymakers who want to explore further afield than Spain.
An industry source told the newspaper: "I would say this is a significant announcement from one of the leading holiday airlines in the UK.
"Virgin is a massive international brand and this is their first foray into the Scottish market. The fact that Scotland is now on their radar is significant in itself."
However, a spokeswoman for Virgin noted that the flights were "really only a one-off" and didn't promise that more were to come.
