There are a few communities that are closer to shops, but the thing to remember is that you will be fine going, but do you really want to lug bags of groceries back to your villa in 80 or 90 degree heat ?

Personally, I'd go for the car and air conditioning option [msnwink]

You'd do well to be like a local and drive.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

None of the developments are more than a couple of minutes drive from large supermarkets.[msnsmile2]

Lake Wilson Preserve, where we have our home, is within walking distance of a CVS Pharmacy. US pharmacies are a cross between a corner shop, Boots the chemist and Woolworths. They sell a variety of food and provisions but no where near as much selection as a large US supermarket. The CVS near us is great for a morning walk to buy a newspaper, bottle of milk, carton of orange juice, loaf of bread etc.

It is quite unusual to find this in Florida as the position most shops are in are not 'walker friendly' i. e. no pavements (sidewalks). The CVS near to us can be reached safely by walking along an old unused road that runs parallel to the new one that carries the traffic. Friends of ours who stayed at their home for some months used to walk there and back every day for some groceries and enjoyed meeting the locals, usually playing bowls, at a RV vacation resort nearby.

Southern Dunes has a Super Walmart, Wynn Dixie, Dollar Tree and a bank just outside the community gate. No roads to cross and from our villa it takes 10 minutes to walk there. It can take longer coming back depending on how much you have bought in Walmart as the bags get heavy.[msnwink]

Glenbrook has a Walgreens at the entrance for basics. Formosa Gardens also has a Winn Dixie within walking distance. Grand Reserve has a small service station near the entrance also. Theres also a villa community behind the Winn Dixie on US27, just can't remember the name.

Goodings Supermarket do offer a home delivery service which may be of use to you

Most other places you'll have to drive.
