I would not buy a camcorder in the US as they use a different system to the one used in Europe. You will have to use US video tapes and you may have problems with playback on your TV.
The digital camera should be ok but remember you only have duty free allowance of £145 each.

JDS, there are many camera shops that sell PAL video cameras in Orlando. I know there are a couple on I Drive. With all this sort of stuff it really depends on the exchange rate at the time as to how much cheaper they are but generally they are cheaper.

I bought my digital camera form a guy on one of the flea markets on the 192 and I have to say I got an absolute bargain when I compared the same model back here in the UK I also bought my digital camera off him and he threw in a carry case for both Digital camera and video. If you need his detail just DM me, I saved my self over £100.00 so the answer is yes you will save yourself money if you buy off the right person. I wouldn't bother with the ones on International drive, most of the prices are inflated and overpriced so you wouldn't save much compared to the UK.

ipods are cheaper, but not a lot, as Apple control the world market. However, the way the exchange rate is going at the moment you could do well.

I bought a Sony lap top, and the price was about the same for dollars in the US as it was for pounds in the UK. All was great, until, the thing went wrong, at which point it became a nightmare, the service team in the UK wouldn't deal with me, so I had to keep phoning the US, finally they agreed it needed returning, but I couldn't send it to them, they had to collect it, but would only collect it within the US. A catch-22 nightmare!

So Yes, I reckon you will be able to find what you're looking for cheaper than in the UK, but personally, I wouldn't do it again, check out the duty free shop before you fly! or the internet.

Julie - one thing to watch for is your own time while away on holiday.

If you know what you want and are prepared to do a bit of legwork you can likely save a bit, but do ask yourself if it's worth taking a day out of your holiday to achieve this; or if you wouldn't be better off picking up your new toys in the UK where you can have some time getting used to them before you travel.

I have to agree with Steve, I have recently bought a new digital camera and I am still trying to get my head around it[msnembarrased] There are lots of things to take in and its better to take the time to sort out for a while here before you get to Florida.

    The Camera shops are everywhere!

    The US192 as plenty too.

You may find that some models of Camcorder are compatiable with both NTSC and PAL TV's.

Just make sure you ask before you purchase.
Have you thought of Duty Free?

I think that Dixons may have something suitable too!

    Research is the best way!!!!
