We are on Vodafone and ours work in Florida no problem. It's true though that you have to pay for calls you receive as well as make, and it can get expensive. As long as you have all your friends and families' numbers programmed in you will know who is calling you and if it's worth answering. But before you go, tell everyone you know to text you instead of calling.

Yes if you have a tri-band phone it will work - best also to contact your operator and make them aware you are going abroad to avoid any complications of using it when away

You can also buy a pay as you go card from T-mobile or Cingular and get a 321-xxx-xxxx number as long as your phone is Tri-band and the SIM unlocked.
Great value if you tend to use it to ring other phones in the US when over there
We have 02 pay as you go and ne Quad band phones, last year we had Tri band but we could not access each others phone.
This year we rang and explained what we wanted to do and our phones were set to international roaming for our holiday dates. We were told it would be cheaper to text and only call each other if it was really necessary.
My husband needed to contact me to let me know he was ready to be picked up from the golf course. He would give me 3 rings and I would ring back to let him know I was on my way. Although we both loaded up our phones with extra credit I didn't use mine at all, the three rings worded perfectly well. Most days I was at the Villa so if he needed to talk to me he would ring the house phone.
We also found that when we used our phone an automated voice said that the first minute of call was free[msnsmile2]
hi we use our phones ( they are tri- band ) but ot seems to work out very dear !!!! reception is fine but i think the cost depends on your tariff
If you are going to use your moblie abroad a lot, O2 do a deal where for a fixed monthly charge you get a big discount on your calls.
It may be worth trying.
