Visa rate for credit card transactions is £2.02 today. Use fee free card such as Nationwide and that's what you'll get on purchases.

We took out the Nationwide Visa Credit card just for the purpose of using it when we are in Forida and watch the $ and use the card for as definately get a far better exchange rate on purchases.

Spoke to a few friends of mine in the City last night and they think £/$ will be topping out at 2.07/2.10 over the next few months. Just a view and private observation - but these guys have been trading currencies for 20+ years.

Anyone ever looked at the exchange rate from US$ to GB£? I've just spotted that it's US$2.23 to the GB£. Pity it doesn't work like that around the other way! [msnwink]

I was joking about the 3 to 1, but having said that latest rate is £1 to $2.0461, so you never know[msnwink]

We are thinking of getting some dosh for when we go next year. Thoughts and feelings on buying now would be appreciated - do we buy now or wait a bit longer? They were saying on Bloomberg that the pound won't have much effect on things as no interest rate rises probably until later in the year so it depends what the dollar does. Are they expecting rate changes across the pond which will effect exchange rates?[?]

Without any guarantees, and with all the usual caveats, currency guys are talking $2.10 by end September.

But then, what do they know? They get it wrong as often as they get it right, and they freely admit this. I've given up trying to predict, and just buy when I'm going, but it's up to you.
