I know that there is one of this run by American Express, but they are not taken everywhere.

However it does sound like a good idea.

We have the American Express Travellers Cheque Card.

The only place we have found that does not take it is Petrol Stations.

They did have some good offers on them too, but not sure if they are still on!

Handy if you don;t like carrying cash, and easier to use than TC as you don;t get change from them.

Great idea and you can top up and use again.

There is a charge for using it in an ATM, you also get a lower exchange rate that's how they can offer offer you a $50 bonus. At least with TC's you know what you have spent and what you have left plus you get cash as change.

I take a small amout of TC's and use my credit card for everthing else.

I opened a Nationwide Flex Account up last year as a holiday account. I load up the account for when I need to draw funds.

In April I used the debit card for the first time in Florida without any problems. I got an excellant rate much higher than the Tourist rate and only took money out when I needed it. I wasn't charged for using ATM and we also used there credit cards as well and got a slighty higher rate of exchange. One good thing about the credit cards was I found that when the refunds came through on account they were at an even higher rate, only fractionaly but it's never happened before when I used to use my Barclaycard.

I will stick with this system as we found we spent a lot less than we thought we would. I have always bought T/C and kept them in a draw for our next trip, this way we can use the money as and when we want to in what ever country we visit.

We use Nationwide flex debit card and Nationwide credit card, they dont charge a transaction fee and also we have found the exchange rate on the statement is better than we would have got if we had changed money over.

I've just been checking my Nationwide statments and found that on 21 Mar for atm withdrawals I got an exchange rate of 1.754 and credit card payments at 1.74632843. The tourist rate at the time was given as 1.70.

Apologise for getting it the wrong way round earlier.

After our first week Walmart atm's were closed for refurbishment but remembered someone on this site said that they also used the atm's at Publix. Short drive to the aptly named PRESTO machine and problem over.
