I like picking the car myself at Alamo...no waiting for the paperwork...then the keys...then waiting when you find something wrong with the car....we were out in half the time using Alamo....I've had few problems with any car company so far....we just go for the cheapest....

Dollar for us mainly because of the price. We have used Alamo in the past but this was when you had to get a bus to the pick up area, I'm sure you can now collect the car at the airport.

Main difference, apart from price, seems to be that Dollar allocate you a car whereas Alamo let you chose your own. They are both 'on site' at MCO - no bus trip any more.
Must say that the last Dollar car my daughter picked up was a bit scruffy - not been cleaned thoroughly inside, dried coffee (I hope) on the steering wheeel, and a rather dodgy looking stain on the rear seats. Having said that I am using them at the end of April mainly due to price. Will check car and get them to change (well try at least) if I am not happy with it.

We always have Dollar as we prefer their fleet and they're usually newer. The last one we had from them in December/January had 20 miles on the clock when we picked it up but we managed to put a few on it! [msnwink]

I had a new car last week with Alamo, it was the new model Pontiac G6 GT, I arrived a few days before Mr CDV and he was surprised at what I had picked as he thought I would go for something nice and small!! We have had dealings with all the major car companies and at the miute Alamo comes out on top for our house, decent cars, express system and all inclusive best price. It's all about what suits your needs though.

I think that it all depends on what cars they have in stock when you arrive at the car rental desk. Only last month our daughter picked up a Dollar rental from The Grosvenor Resort at Lake Buena Vista. She had pre-booked an economy 2-door and was given a 4 x 4 Jeep with only 17 miles on the clock. We have always used Alamo in the past but are thinking of booking with Dollar next time, as they are less expensive.

We have never used the "express system". Can you tell us how this works please?

We have hired from both and for us it's Alamo.
Pick your own car, the Dollar one last time was scruffy/dirty inside and out.

WE have always used Dollar when flying into MCO as they were on site. This year we used Alamo as they were the only company to offer a 15 Seater and i must say i did like the way you could choose which vehicle you wanted from the Garage. There customer service was a little to be desired by Roger (From here) sorted out our problem when we got back and i am most appreciative of the service and speed of it that he gave.

Dollar for me all the time. I did use Alamo once, and the idea of choosing your vehicle SEEMED like a good idea. The reality, however, was that there were no 4x4 vehicles in the lanes and we, along with about 10 other families, had to wait for vehicles to come back in. To me, that is very poor planning - if you have no vehicles of a certain type standing in the garage, why dish them out to people just arriving? After about 40 minutes of standing in the heat of the garage, I marched back into the terminal and demanded a different vehicle. Very poor service in my opinion.

We have used both of these companies have to say that their customer service and cars/quality are very similar. The only differance is that with Alamo at Orlando International you get to choose your car.
You have to weigh up this up and see if it worth any extra money.
