Good Hotel or Location for a 2 day trip to beach

We are having a 3 weeks holiday staying at a villa in Kissimmee during October. We want a 2 - 3 day break at the coast during our holiday so the kids can have fun on the beach. We are looking for a Hotel that is within walking distance of a beach and ideal for a family with young kids. Obviously we won't be on the beach all day so would like some activities nearby to keep the kids amused. Can anybody recommend a Hotel or maybe just an area that would be good for us? As there seems to be so much to chose from we are totally lost on where to start. Thanks!

Cocoa Beach is just over an hours drive from Orlando with lots to do in the immediate area. Great beaches, some nice restaurants, malls, Daytona and Kennedy Space Centre is nearby. Theres all the standard US hotel chains on the beach offering good room rates.

St. Augustine is further north, about 3-4 hours drive from Orlando, it's Americas oldest city with lots to see and some lovely beaches. It's certainly well worth a visit.

On the west coast, the Naples area is another great beach resort. Have a look at this thread for more on Naples http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic_28745.asp

    Derek,

I second Lynne's suggestion - living here - I much prefer the beaches on the west coast - Clearwater is supposed to be ranked one of the best in the nation - and much more beautiful and tropical than the east coast.

Just doing a quick search you will find any number of hotels along Clearwater beach.

We had a 3 night break at Clearwater last year. For the same reasons as you, to let our boys have fun on the beach.

You may feel a little confined if you're staying in a villa in Kissimmee then a hotel room at the Gulf Coast, why not have a look at the villas this site offers, if you're flexible with what date you want to go I'm sure you would have some luck getting a short break[msnsmile2]

Thanks for all your replies! I must say that Clearwater seems to be favorite with most of you. Any other suggestions or advice would be great.
