    traffic?

How bad is the traffic around Disney & Universal?
My sister (from Atlanta) says it can take an hour to go 6 miles.

We were thinking of staying around 6 miles from Disney, but will it really take an hour to get there? We are going at Easter next year.
    Thanks
    Kate

There is no way it takes an hour to drive 6 miles around Disney and Universal. From Kissimmee/192 it takes around 10 minutes to Disney and possibly 25 minutes to Universal

Depends on the time of day. Downtown Orlando traffic can be very heavy. Around the 192 traffic can be busy when the parks close, plus the 192 roadworks don't help the situation. Most of the time it moves quite quickly.

If you do a search on Google for "orlando traffic" you can find a local webiste which shows traffic conditions in real time.

Thankfully never experienced anything as bad as what KateUK describes[:O]

    Hi Kate

We stay on the US27 about 12 miles from DisneyWorld and it takes us between 15 - 25 mins tops.

As for Universal and Seaworld hit the I4 and its about 30 - 35 mins tops

No it wont take you an hour if you are 6 miles away. Not unless you get lost.

    Thank-you so much.
When we go I was thinking of going to the parks first thing in the morning, coming back to the villa for a late lunch/early dinner and ta swim and rest. Then going to the parks for the evening for the fireworks etc.

I thought I would not be able to do that if it took an hour each way!! It would be 4 hours travelling each day!![V]

I have noticed one or two postings on traffic lately and have to say they tend to be way over the top.
Unless you hit rush hour traffic is fine and MUCH better than Glasgow at any time.

We got back last Wednesday and the traffic was horrendous, bumper to bumper along the 192.

    Hi Kate,
The traffic can get very heavy but I wouldn't say it takes an hour!. You should have enough time to come out from the parks in the afternoon then go back in the evenings.

The road improvements to the 192 were completed last month. There are now extra lanes and improved flow for those that want to turn off onto side roads.

If you time your journeys to miss the commuter peak hours then life will be a lot easier.

One thing to be careful of is your plan is like a lot of other peoples. So once the fireworks finish large numbers head for the car parks and then the exit roads. This is not a problem for Disney because their roads are big enough with no traffic lights but once you reach the local road things can slow.

Best advice I can give is save something you want to do till after the fireworks because with lots of people heading out the queues will be a lot shorter. Perhaps go back and have another go on that favourite ride.

The traffic on the 192 can get heavy around rush hour. However it has never taken us an hour to get from 27 to disney.

The new road with another link to disney is now open from the 192 is now open which will ease the pressure even more.
