dollar at Miami

Hi everyone, wonder if anyone can help?
Is there a Dollar rental office at Miami Docks? We're going on a mini-cruise from Miami in October, and want to pick up a rental car when we get off the ship. Werented a car last year from the site on this forum, and was very pleased with the service ( flew in and out of Sanford). This year, as I mentioned, We want to pick up from Miami Docks, and drop off at Miami airport.

I am going out to Miami in November and was looking for alternative pick ups other than the airport.

So far the only places I've found for pick up with Dollar are Miami offsite airport, Thunderbird and Eden Roc Hotels.

Dollar run (free) shuttle buses from Miami Docks to their rental centre at Miami Airport (off site) and vica versa. However depending on the terminal you dock at, it can be a frustrating wait when you disembark your cruise as the buses fill up very quickly.

Don't forget that, even if you want to pick up a car somewhere other than the Orlando area, the above car rental link does lots of other places in the USA, including Miami.

thanks for the information, I have no idea how far the airport is from the docks, so I'd probably have to wait ( however long it takes!) for the shuttle bus. The alternative would be to get a taxi-I'll look into that.[msnsmile]

The busses are supposed to run every 20 minutes from the docks to the Miami Airport (off site) depot, and slightly more frequently during busy periods. There is also a toll free phone to call if you just miss a bus or you arrive 'out of hours' then Dollar will send out another bus to collect you.

If you think getting a rental car shuttle at the airport is bad wait till you see a large port after four or five ships all dock the same morning.

It can be well worth the money getting a taxi if the queue is small enough.

Another tip is to tell the on board cruise staff that you have any early flight to Orlando that way you will be in one of the first groups to disembark and therefore at the front of the taxi queues.

Getting the dollar bus at Miami airport is a nightmare. You wait for ages and then people come from nowhere and dive on the bus. As for dropping the car off at Miami - we went there on New Years day 2005. No one was checking the cars in - well not for at least half an hour so we gave up waiting. £ days later got a phone call at home (in the middle of the night) asking where the car was. I told them we had dropped it off days ago and how awful the service was.
