Travel insurance for pre exisiting conditions

Can anyone tell me where you can get reasonable travel insurance for someone with a medical condition? We are due to go to Orlando in June, however we are finding it really difficult to get travel insurance for my dad who has a heart condition although he has not had any real problems for years. We can get insurance for him that will cover everything except his heart which is pretty pointless. The quotes we have been getting to cover his heart condition have been anywhere between £1,000 and £3,000 for 2 weeks!

Hope someone out there can help.

Debbie - have you thought about trying a broker? We are having the same problems, American Express appear to be the most hopeful so far. Let me know how you go on?

Forgot to say my MIL is 85 and we were considering taking her to FL and she has lots of medical problems including heart, Age Concern gave her a quote with all the problems she has.

    Hi,

    Try www.allcleartravel.co.uk

We have used this company for the last 2 years as they specialise in pre existing medical conditions. Their details were given to me by a sales agent from another insurance company, sorry can't remember which one, when I was trying to get insurance while waiting for a stomach op. I also have asthma and Steve has high blood pressure and their cost for annual cover was very reasonable. I can't remember exactly how much it was but was definately less than £200 for the pair of us and that included a very good level of medical cover. Most of the other companies would only insure us for anything not connected with our existing conditions or the op which was completely useless especially when travelling to the US.

We only changed this year because Barclays were doing a really good deal for shareholders.Hope they can help.

unfortunately as soon as the word heart enters the fray then the medicos just roll the numbers dice. we have had the same problem for my father in law, he had quad by pass 15 years ago but has visited australia. penang etc about 10 times since and has been back in to casualty once in that time , but was ok.

i dont know the ethicos of travellling uninsured re the heart area.clearly a different kind of dice throwing but i just think that if i had been trouble free for so long/against a 2/3k premium for a 2 week holiday?!?!?!? dont know....

Someone I know was in Intensive Care for a week. The cost? Over $1 million - and that was six years ago.
