    Australian Tourism Advert

There's huge controversy here over an advert by the Australian Tourism Commission, who have spent millions for an advertising campaign overseas, only for the UK censors to ban it in Britain, and Singapore are following suit.

The reason being that they say 'Where the blood y h ell are you'? at the end! So its been censored and the offending word taken out! Its causing endless talkback radio and tv comments, most of them saying the poms haven't got a sense of humour. It gets aired in Britain from Monday I think!

So I am fending off all these comments about it, and sticking up for Blighty. Mind you I am surprised it got banned, especially after all the French Connection UK ads around! [msnoo]

Somewhere I have seen this advert and was very surprised to find the word '[bad language filtered out]' used especially as we are going through a phase of extreme political correctness over all sorts of other things. It made its point though by using the word as I certainly looked at the rest of the advert.

Well Theresa it has had the desired effect hasn't it? Been talked about in the media, pictures of it shown in the press & tv - giving the Oz Tourist Board far more publicity than a normal mundane ad would have done!

Look what Benetton and French Connection have achieved for years doing the same shock tactics.

Yes the Tourist Commission are saying its a huge success, creating the kind of publicity you couldn't pay for!
B loody is used quite often here. Their drink/driving slogan on TV & Billboards is 'If you drink and drive yer a b loody idiot'. Problem is that kids love reading it out loudly when they see it, its quite catchy, but its effective!

I read about this ad in the newspaper this morning. Apparently it has been banned from British Television because it is considered too rude.

How times change.....where what was considered foul language is now so commonly used it has become acceptable for many.

LOL Australia! Its the Australian Tourism Ad!

People are writing all sorts of comments here. eg Britain is offended by the bad language, yet air programs like Little Britain, Rock School ('f' word every 5 mins).

Then another wrote: I think the poms are probably offended by the long stretches of unspoilt beaches, blue skies and blue seas.
