    A very girlie question!

I'm vaguely embarrassed asking this, but I'm going to ask it anyway! Will my beloved hair straighteners work with an adaptor? I know hairdryers aren't great with an adaptor, but does anyone know about hair straighteners? Okay, I'm not going until next year but it's been niggling me (so much so that I'm growing my hair longer so I can get it all back/up without the aid of 47 clips, just in case! I just can't bear the thought of going on this dream holiday with wild and woolly hair!).

Well, I did warn you that it was a girlie question!

Well, Elaine, you should be straight but it might take a little longer than it does in the UK...

I think they should work fine with an adaptor Elaine. My mother-in-law always takes her curling tongs and never has a problem

My girls take theirs and they work. However, I can assure you in the summer it is a complete waste of time as the minute you set out the front door guess what happens? It's frizz time! Here in the UK I can dry my hair perfectly straight with product. In the summer months in florida what do I get? Mega frizz!!

Last summer I got so fed up I went and had my hair cut short (well razored really with little swirly bits everywhere - are you still with me!) - looked great! But as soon as I got home it didn't curl as much so swiftly grew it out!

In theory they won't get as hot, although they should get hot enough to do the job.

If my schoolboy physics serves me, The Power of the Iron is calculated by P = I x V and as the Voltage is halved, a 20W Iron in the UK will only have the same power as a 10W one when it is used in the US (I think)

    Hi Elaine

Small electrical items are very reasonably priced in US,many things are half the price of UK so you may be better advised simply buying one out there for your Holiday.

    Hi Elaine

As highlighted above you will be ok using your hair straighteners, my wife always takes her's over and they work fine.

All be it that they do take longer to heat up and they don't seem to get as hot as they do in the UK.

    But you should be fine.

Your hair straightener should be fine with an addaptor. But as Fiona pointed out if you go in the summer months with the humidity is will just we a waste of time as I also have curly hair and when straightening it in Florida after 1 hour just comes out curly again.
Take it from me, Im a part time hairdresser.

Hi Elaine, I took my straighteners and hairdryer with me and both worked...slowly ! I actually bought a pair of good Remmington straighteners in one of the malls for approx $19.00. They are dual voltage so they also work perfectly well in the UK. I've got short hair and as soon as I step outside in Florida it just frizzes but I tried a product called White Rain (97 cents in Wal-mart) and found it helped..not sure if it will suit everyones hair though !!

Does anyone know of any decent hair products that might help us with frizzy hair while in Florida ??
