    Newbie

Whoops addicted already and forget my manners.

I am 54, no children except for the 49 year old I married 10 years ago. First went to Florida in 1980, stayed in Fort Lauderdale and visited the Magic Kindom for 2 days. Came back again in 1990? when Virgin first started doing holidays, stayed in Miami overnight and drove down to Orlando to stay in motel on the US27 (Epcot was open and they were still building MGM. The 192 was quite empty, K-mart was there but made up of mainly hotels a few eating places and the cheap touristy shops selling t-shirts.
Came back in 1997 on a belated honeymoon and stayed in Lake Buenavista at the Comfort Inn. Chris did not want to go but now he hardly wants to go anywhere else. Came out in Sept 97, stayed in a villa on US27 and became hooked on villas. Even with 2 of us it doesn't work out much more than booking a holiday with Virgin as long as you book it separately.
Everytime I bought anything I would buy double to give to my sister and Chris decided it would be easier to buy her a ticket and she could carry her own luggage. She's been coming with us ever since.
We love it out there, have made friends with a elderly couple we met in Sizzler who live just down the road from where we stay (to us it would be miles away but it's still the same zipcode)

We were looking to buy a holiday home but in the end decided to buy one in Spain as Chris can fly out on his weekend off. He works horrendous hours as a head chef in London and works every other Saturday but thankfully the restaurant doesn't open on a Sunday. In the winter he can fly out for a weekend very cheaply so we use the house more than we would a villa in Florida. It's no comparison really but when you only get 4 weeks holiday a year you have to be realistic.

Roll on the lottery win when he can give up work

Finally we are owned by two cats 14 years old this year, another thing which stops us being away from the UK for too long.

    Hi Zena

welcome along to the forum. I know you have been here a while already but it's nice to meet another Florida nut [msnsmile2]

I know how Chris feel's about working all the hours, our daughter is a chef in a large restaurant in Maidstone and she works all the unsocial hours too [msncry] But she finally managed to get a week over at the villa with us in Sept, and is coming over again next Xmas, even if she has to quit work to do it apparently... we'll see [msnwink]

When are you planning on going over to Fl again?

    Rosie

Out again in 3 weeks, staying in a different villa this year but still in the same zipcode.

Has to be near the shops for me and golf for Chris. We found an advert in the Dalton's Weekly years ago and through that stayed in Country Creek off Bass Road. Pop into Walmart on way home - heaven. I just hope that the roadworks are finished on 192, bit of a nightmare last April!

Welcome to the forum Zena. I hope you enjoy your stay in a few weeks time. We are also counting off the days till we go at Easter. My brother has bought a villa in Spain for much the same reasons as you have said. They too go out for long weekends. Infact my sister in law and 2 friends have flown out today until next Wednesday to celebrate her 50th birthday which was last week.
