Wii - Gaming but not as you know it

With all the hype surrounding the PS3 at the moment we decided to book the trend and go and buy a Wii. (This proved a little difficult because it is out selling the PS3 by 3 to 1 in the US and looks like being the same over here)
We were reluctant at first because the kids already have PS2's and we didn't know if we really needed another console - but having had it set up over the weekend I can honestly say it is one of the best buys we have made. It requires so much more activity and inter action than a standard console that when you have had a 'quick' go you start to feel as if you have had a proper work out. I did a bit of boxing on it earlier and here I am at work with pains in my biceps and forearms that remind me of my bench pressing days (a looooong time ago)
I'm all for getting the kids out and about and physical but when the rains coming down and the are trapped indoors it is a good way of getting them fitter without them even knowing about it. [msnwink]

We love this machine. Never been interested in any game console before (my kids have had them all -this because I have 6 between the ages of 16 and 32), This we bought at Christmas and everyone loves even those people who nevr play games consoles, like myself. Addicted to bowling and boxing, you should try the tennis even more of a workout.

We bought ours just before christmas and had to queue for almost 3 hours. The kids love it. The only thing i would say is that some of the games can be hard to control and take some time to get used to.

It is supposed to be a good way of loosing a few New year pounds (weight that is). Certainly looks good. I could just see getting one in the villa and someone getting so excited they throw the control through the window.[:O]

Sounds great fun! I have heard they can be lethal weapons though when the player gets too carried away - have heard some stories about tvs getting broken when the controls fly off from you hands[msnscared]

We have had one for about a month now and it is played very regularly, still the most popular are the original games that came with the system (especially tennis and bowling) but I'm dying to try SSX. With internet browsing also provided through a wireless connection we will be getting one for the villa next time we're over (couldn't get our hands on one last time[msnsad]).

My son had the Wii for Xmas, but sorry, nothing touches the PS3 -he is playing resistance at the mo -tremendous graphics and detail -had me jumping out of my skin -these controllers also have motion detection, and you have to move around knocking people aside withthem etc. He also has DEF ICON, which is certainly different!

I agree that visually the PS3 would be very hard for any console to beat - including the X-Box 360 - but it's the price tag that makes the Wii a much better buy for the majority of us.
£180 for the Wii against £425 for the PS3, and then you have to factor in the cost of the games which are £50 plus for the PS. This is the main reason cited for the Wii outselling the playstation and the reason that there are so many PS3's on the shelf.
Some people are saying that they will wait for the price to come down before taking the plunge, but I heard a radio interview with a Sony spokesman the other day stating that they wont - certainly not before Xmas. At first I thought this just was posturing, but a quick search online reveals that the prices are the same in the US as they were on launch. The same is true of the X-Box. Plus with the playstation you are getting Blue Ray technology for less than you can buy a Blue Ray player.
At the end of the day for those that have the money then the PS3 is by far the best thing out there - and believe me if could I would buy one too. But as it's poorer cousin the Wii is great fun, cheaper to buy, cheaper for games and accessories and is a great way for the kids to let off some steam - especially when they beat Dad at boxing [msnembarrased]
