Thread: british magazines

I know what you mean. A while ago I worked in America for 2 years. When I returned home it felt really weird no knowing who a lot of the people on the television were, but I soon caught up.

When I go to Florida I buy several magazines at the duty free and carry them through as extra in a carrier bag and have never been stopped. That said when I am at the American supermarkets I try and sneek an American gossip mag without my husband seeing[msnwink]

If you want to keep up with the news back home I find the internet the best way, especially if your villa has a computer or your villa community has an internet/cyber cafe.

You can find Hello, OK etc. Walgreen at the corner of 27 and 54 has a good selection though they are pricey. Also the American equivalents can be found anywhere, People, Star etc though there is obviously more on US celebs in those so you wont find anything on Posh and Becks, Charlotte Church, Jordan, the latest winner of Big Brother et al. People sometimes leave English magazines in the villas when they go and after nearly three years living here, I open them up and people stare out at me from the pages and I think "who??"

I always pack a load of mags in the suitcase, once I've read them it leaves lots of space and weight for shopping

Cheers Julie, too far for my gossip fix though!

WalGreens in Champions Gate is even nearer (2 minutes from my villa just up the road from where you stayed I think?)

I usually buy a magazine for the flight (although I also have a book or two), which I then leave in the villa, but I do like to look at the American magazines as well - they just seem so different from our ones!
