    Anyone use VoIP?

If you do what do you use? I have just got hold of a new Zoom X5v 5565 Router/Modem that has built in VoIP with Global Village and was wondering what people thoughts of the whole VoIP system are?

Not bad for FREE phone calls

We use 1899 in the UK for our calls (virtually free) which use VOIP.

Also have Earthlink VOIP free with my Earthlink Brighthouse Cable Internet in Florida.

The quality is marginally worse that a standard phone line, but we find it is pretty good.

    Chris,

    1899 is NOT VOIP.

They do have that service but you have apply for it and get FREE calls but the normal service isn't. They use low cost carriers which usually go abroad and then come back again. If you know someone with caller display call them and see how your number is displayed, it will be +44 nnnnnnnnnnn like an international call.

He was the first person to ever make a call on VOIP...

We have VOIP at our villa for guests to use. We just keep it topped up for them. The sound quality is really excellent.

I bought my daughter and her US boyfriend Skype phones for Christmas as they had tried using the headsets and mikes with Skype but didnt find the quality as good.

They've both said the phones are brilliant and make the quality as good as normal landlines and even better their calls are free so is saving them both a fortune even though they've only been using them since the New Year.
