I love Rome!! Great place to visit if you like history but comments are just about right. When in Rome do as the Romans. You just have to grit your teeth and take what you can from Italians!

Reading that has taken me back to the Trevi fountain, the colisseum, the vatican. I can but daydream.
We went to Rome in 2004, me, hubby, my 2 kids, my Mum and my niece on a trip arranged by the cruise ship we were staying on, and I always have to laugh because some of the snooty people on the trip mistook my Mum for my nieces mother. My niece was 5 at the time and my Mum ... too old for childbirth!
Some friends and I spent a great week end in Rome last November ,the hotel was lousey , we found it difficult to find a decent restaraunt with a resonably priced menu and the Romans we encountered in stores and cafes were generally rude. Having said that the city holds a certain magic and a weekend certainly cannot do justice to the marvellous tourist attractions this ancient city has to offer , the tour of the Sistine chapel is 5 hours alone . finally no Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder to have a private meeting with the Holy Father , perhaps he had been warned off about these six crazy Irishwomen .
