You should have no problems using it at ATM however as previously stated at present it is not widley accepted in shops. I have used mine in some of the bigger stores without any problem.
Word of advice, many banks etc will charge for cash withdrawals whilst abroad so it better/cheaper to take as much as possible out in one go. My bank charge min £1.75 per withdrawal but you will get the bank rate and not the tourist rate so it equals itself out if you take out a large amount, even with the charge. I do know some banks do not charge for withdrawals

We use a Nationwide Debit card in the ATM and there is no charge from them and also you get a good rate.

I've never managed to get switch/maestro to work for purchases in the States, but I've been able to withdraw cash from every ATM I've tried. Curious really.

I've used it at the ATM's with any problem but never tried to make an actual purchase but then again I always buy my tickets through the links on this site.[msnsmile2]

OK, OK I'll muddy the waters further, my 'switch' card, the one I use every day, has only the issuing bank - Bank Of Scotland - and 'debit card' and the visa symbol on it. Fair do's, loadsa numbers n stuff but no corporate logos.
Anyone figure if it's gonna fly in the states?

If has the visa logo its should be ok. However if the number begins with a 6 you might have problems.

I'd probably give you 3-to-1 against if it doesn't have a Maestro or Cirrus logo on it. Cirrus is probably the most reliable of all the international networks.
