    An unwritten law

Do supermarket checkout people have an unwritten law about how fast they can get the food through the checkout.
Don't know if I'm just very very slow bagging my shopping but they always always start on the next trolley full before I'm even half bagged up by which time I am in a panic and start getting all hot and bothered.[msnwink]

Anyway all shopping is now finished just the liquid food to pick up now and I think I will leave that to my husband.

there's a really simple answer to this Paula
you dont pay for your shopping until you have bagged all your groceries

in our local morrisons we have had various charities "packing" for you and it is always for a good cause like the local hospice or a childrens community group
there is usually a child and an adult at each checkout and the children are always so nice and helpful its especially nice for the elderly who may not have much contact with young people over the holidays

Paula, it is all to do with the amount of people queuing at any one time. When i used to be a Manager at Tesco it had to be instilled that there could be no more than 2 people in the Checkout queue at a time which at this time of year is b loody rediculous. I had many arguments with Other Management about the Fact that it was a Customer Service department and by ramming all the Customers good down the conveyor belt as fast as you could was not giving the Customer good service.

As you can imagine i wasn't well liked there!!! lol

well now you started me off[msnmad][msnmad][msnmad]they ram my shopping through at times even if i am the "only" person on the checkout!!!! makes my blood boil, i end up with squashed bread and theyre not cheapie loaves! they ram the tins of dog food down and have scratched my knuckles many times! but last week it was so funny! my 10 year daughter Lauren watched me with her dad, i specifically asked the chap on checkout if he could go slowly, but thats like hitting the "magic button" i was getting so mad and muttering under my breath! my Lauren said very loudly and matter of fact "would you mind slowing down please so mum has a chance to pack, youre squashing the food" i was gobsmacked as was the chap in question!!! he politely obeyed!!![msnoo] his face was a picture of cherry red, yesterday i picked a till with a young checkout girl and she helped me pack slowly!! you had to be there it was funny!

Yes we do too now Sharon, I can't tell you how much easier it was doing a huge Christmas shop online rather than fighting at the superstore.

There are disadvantages to shopping online but overall it's best for us. You can complain about broken packs or whatever and Tesco in particular are excellent at refunding or replacing, they never quibble.

Online is the way to go and has been for us for the last 2+ years. It takes about 20 minutes instead of 2+ hours!

Blott do you just mean for your Christmas shop, or do you always do it online? I have thought about this and actually signed up for it with Tesco but feel that I would probably only do it sometimes (like now when the supermarkets are chaotic, or when my back is bad), because if I did it regularly I would miss the offers. We do all our shopping online. You still get offers, may be more offers, online, including the buy one, get one free type.

We use different supermarkets though when we feel like a change, ie Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda and Ocado (Waitrose). Sainsburys is the only one that does free delivery if you spend over GB Pounds 75 and have delivery on Tuesday - Thursdays.
