As i needed clarification before i parted with money for a new passport i phoned the US Embassy in London on their £1.20 per min helpline.
The girl at the embassy said that the information on the UK Passport Agency Website is wrong and that my passport without a digital photograph is valid for visa free travel right up until its normal expiry date in 2008.
She said that any passport issued before 26 October 2005 was valid for travel to US Visa Free until expiry as long as it was Machine Readable.
It is only passports issued after 26 October 2005 that require a digital photograph and only those issued after 26 October 2006 that need to be Biometric.
