Julie’s Florida Food Diary!
Well it will be more like that than a trip report as all I seemed to do was eat…… [msntongue]
Thursday 27th
Last day at work! Got to finish early, was meant to go home and pack but as it was such a nice day I got the lawnmower out and cut the front lawn! It’s last cut of the year – although it hadn’t half grown when I got home.
Finished the packing and started the hols as I meant to continue by treating myself to a Big Mac and large fries [msntongue]
Had a natter on the phone with a few friends and then an early night.
Friday 28th
Up early to go and have legs waxed (well it’s got to be done girl’s hasn’t it?) and hair cut and coloured.
Subway for lunch – then loaded up the car – collected Mum and Dad and we were off to Manchester – managed to scratch my shiny new car when reversing it on to Mum and Dad’s drive [msnembarrased]
Were later than we planned to be arriving (due to me taking so long gently pushing my car off the wall where I had lodged the back bumper!!) so didn’t get the chance to visit Lakeland as I had hoped to.
Enjoyed double egg, chips and beans washed down with 2 pints of beer and 2 Baileys – the beer was a real treat as I’ve given this up while trying to lose weight [beer]
Saturday 29th
Took the car to the car park – waited around for about 10 minutes for the courtesy bus – was amazed at how mild it was at 7.00am in late October.
Check-in was great, no-one waiting at the PE check in (first time we’ve flown PE with Virgin). No problems with our name being incorrectly spelt on our tickets, but I was armed with the e-mail I’d received from customer services just in case.
Glad to be rid of the cases we set of in search of breakfast – hot bacon and egg baps all round
Had a look around the duty free, bought some whisky and brandy for the hols but not much else and it was soon time to board.
Enjoyed a glass of bucks fizz before take-off followed by a diet coke and a bag of M&S luxury nuts, not keen on the freebie pretzels I’m afraid.
And then in no time at all lunch was served – it wasn’t even midday. Now I usually dislike airline food with a passion but this was one meal I enjoyed – pasta salad, a lovely mushroom risotto, chocolate profiterole, cheese and crackers, white wine and an after dinner Baileys – delicious!!
Chose to watch Cinderella Man but couldn’t really get into it – we got a few more drinks (non-alcoholic for me), a bar of chocolate (no ice cream), a sandwich and fruit. The flight was over in a flash and we were soon landing at Orlando over 30 mins early. This was definitely one of the best flights I have had [clap]
First off the plane, through immigration very quickly, before I knew it I was in the queue at the Dollar desk. This was a fairly long queue but moved quickly and we were soon loaded up and on our way. Arrived in Sarasota just after 5pm, was really pleased that the villa we had been allocated at the resort was exactly what I had asked for, close to the pool so Mum and Dad didn’t have too far to walk. Quickly looked around and unpacked, then went out for food and shopping.
Ended up at Friendly’s where we all had a BLT and fries, as the others couldn’t eat all theirs I finished them off instead of having the ice cream I had been looking forward to. Publix next, now I always have my shopping list written out so we were soon out of here and on our way home. Shopping put away we watched the news to learn of the sad death of an English holiday maker in Orlando the previous evening. As we were extremely tired and having been sadden by the news we went off to bed, looking forward to that extra hours sleep due to the clocks going back [|)] [|)]
