If you buy an iPod, then upgrade to a newer one, then sell the old one because you don't need it....why is that horrible?

    Makes economic sense to me

I still use my old iPod's as they were bought for special occasions and I could not part with them. They make great backup disks for important files etc etc too [msnsmile]

If it's a special gift then of course you'd more than likely keep it, just saying in a normal case then engraving might not be a good idea depending on the upgrade route

I was tempted to keep it for a back up device but I have that covered already. I must admit it was weird handing my old one over to someone else. Apple do make you feel a little more attached to your gadgets than anyone else, probably their secret.

LOL - you are right there.

Just looked at some of the re-sale prices on eBay and they are not bad at all. I still find it handy to have a couple of backups of important data stashed around the house (and car) just in case and so have a great use for old iPod's but I can see where you are coming from [msnsmile]

They are great if you have a laptop and need a backup or boot disc - or at least they were when they had Firewire. The old iPod mini is a great small size to just have in the background, packed in your bag - just in case.

Memory sticks aren't quite up to being start-up discs yet, so they are not an option even though I always seem to have plenty of those.

I think I will be keeping mine.
