i am renting a villa in orlando for two weeks i have 2 children aged 4 and 1, i have been told that you can rent child saftey fencing for around the pool area could you please let me know where i can rent this thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

All short term rental homes which have been built since 2000 have to have either pool door alarms or a safety fence (some even have both at the owners' choice) by law and a great deal of homes built before then will also have either of these facilities. Pool door alarms sound extremely loudly if any doors or windows leading to the pool are opened so that you know one of the children has potentially entered the pool area and only an adult can turn these off.

I don't know if you rented your home from this website or not but please contact the owner of the home you're renting who should be able to supply you with information of what pool safety features are available at their home and also what measures you can take to ensure your children are safe.

If the home you've rented is anywhere near a water source, ie a lake or stream, please also ensure that you keep the front door and garage locked at all times in case your children 'escape' via these routes.

If the home doesn't have it fitted it is extremely unlikely you will be able to rent a fence since the deck needs to be drilled to fit it.

Some homes like ours as well as having an alarm have a lock on the sliding door which is out of the reach of children which should mean the children cannot go out unaccompanied/unnoticed.

Hi Danny,

Welcome to the forum. My children have stayed in villas in Orlando since they were babies. The youngest is now 3 and has always been a daring escape artist. Please be reassured that the pool door alarms are very effective and give a good level of safety.

To give extra security we fitted an extra lock to our front door in Florida to stop him opening that. We also have the added protection in that the front door and the door to the garage are linked to the security alarm and that a beep sounds whenever they are opened.

I agree with Blott. Speak to the owner of the home that you have rented and they will be able to tell you what safety features they have in place for young children.
