    leapster

Has anyone purchased one of these in the US? We are thinking of getting a couple for our children for Christmas, I checked out the Walmart site and they are half the price than in the UK, the only thing I can think of is that they are going to have American voices (not that we have a problem with that as our daughter sometimes speaks like Dora the Explorer anyway!!!) Someone I know is going out next week and I am tempted to ask them to pick me a couple up.

A word of caution. We bought our son a Powertouch in the UK, and thought we would buy him some new books that go with it in the US, but when we got them home the plug in bit(microchip?) would not fit, only the UK ones would. It may be different with the leapster, but I would check first

Yep, we got Millie a Leap Pad from Walmart last year. No problem with the Cartridges as they are all compatible. They are a lot cheaper in the US though!!!

Thank you, my two kids are 22 and 20 so I had no idea what you were on about. How things progress though, I was walking around Makro's on Saturday looking at the toys thinking 'I wish I was a kid again' the toys are brilliant these days. I fancied that remote controlled dinosaur, and before the women say anything about men never growing up, your as young as you feel (or would like to feel). [msnsmile2]

We are out at Chriatmas and have seen that they have just brought out a newer version of this called a Leapster L. They retail for £90 over here in the UK but Walmart have them for about the same amount in dollars. They go from Pre school to 4th grade and can plug into your TV.

Just has this e mail back from Leapfrog

Thank you for contacting LeapFrog UK.

We have found that that a UK cartridge will work in a US Leapster/L-Max and vice versa. However, we cannot guarantee compatibility with cartridges intended for countries other than the UK or Ireland because we do not support them.

    Hope this helps.

I have just got back and picked up 3 of the leapsters for my 3 nieces. They were $47 as apposed to the £52 they were here. Bit like getting 2 for 1 [msnsmile2]
