Baseball: Orlando Rays at Wide World Of Sport

The family went two nights last week and was it was well worth it. The atmosphere is great, the kids enjoyed have their picture taken with the mascot and grabbing wayward baseballs and tee shirts lobbed into the crowd.

Even my wife got into the match with her rudimentary knowledge of rounders. Tickets are $5-$8 and there are various promotions and firework displays at weekends. The team is a minor league one and weekday crowds are in the hundreds. The website is www.orlandorays.com The franchise is moving to Alabama next season so you will need to get in this summer.

I had a wonderful experience of seeing the Florida Rays play a double header as the day before they got rained out in August. The stadium is wonderful as wherever you are seated the view is perfect. They have concession stands with food and drinks (a little pricey but what stadium isnt). There is also a place for the kids to shoot baskets, and if you like you can sit out on the grass area in left field and if you are lucky maybe even catch a foul-ball so bring your mitts!!
During each inning the audience can participate in fun and games and win a Florida Ray teeshirt, so go out and play ball!!

From what I hear, '03 was the last year for the Rays in Orlando. They have moved to Montgomery, Alabama and are now the Montgomery Biscuits [?](seriously). Hopefully we're supposed to get a replacement minor league team in the near future. In the meantime, there's always Atlanta Braves spring training.
