When I took one out in the summer as hand luggage I had to turn it on to prove it was real. Had to do the same for my PDA.

I would take it as hand luggage regardless. Why take the risk?
Also it may 'disappear' in transit if left in hold baggage.

Your laptop mains connection lead should be dual/variable voltage. As long as you have a UK : US plug adapter you will be OK.

My hubby regularly travels with 2 laptops and always carries them on as hand luggage[msnwink] last year we took 4 between 3 adults!

Personally I think its madness to pack one in a case, you would have to detach the batt and like has already been said your bag would def be opened and the lap top checked[msnscared]

I think all in all its a bit of a gamble[msneek]

I don't think you would have a problem with the battery. It's only wet cells that the airlines refuse to take in the hold. I agree with the others, I wouldn't risk a laptop in the hold.

Not if you stay in a villa that has a computer Macka you won't.

You may have to check on your insurance if you did decide to put it in the hold as well as the security issues. Since the airline advice has always been to carry anything of value as hand luggage, I'm not sure how you'd get on if it happened to walk.

Yes but with a laptop and a villa with broadband wireless you can sit by the pool whist posting - better than being stuck inside infront of a PC[msnwink]

I always take my laptop in our hard suitcase. I wrap it in loads of clothes!

It is best not to resist the pull of the new IPOD...you know you want one...
