Get the kids involved- forward planning

This is a good way to get the holiday off to a good start, do some research before you leave for your holiday. Use the internet and do a few searches and you can find a whole host of other places the guide books won't tell you about.
The local Orlando paper website is www.orlandosentinel.com this will tell you if there are any special events taking place during your stay, there's nothing worse than one of the locals telling you about a 'fantastic festival or event - especially parades (christmas etc.) ' they went to yesterday. Lots of the parks have events or concerts during the year, so make sure you check them out before you leave as it's guaranteed once you're in Orlando you'll forget to find out about them and miss some real treats.

If you're in the Polk County area try looking at their own line newspaper http://www.theledger.com

I also like to tune into the local news by logging on to http://www.baynews9.com

Good advice,Steph. The friday edition of the Orlando Sentinel has a whats on section where you will find listings of all the local events (worth buying all week really as it tells you when the sales are on,which tend to be less well advertised in advance than the British ones)
