According to this - late 2005. I personally doubt it though. When I drove by last week, the land was cleared and the I4/27 junction was complete, but there was no building going on.

PS For any of the old FLA regulars, the Bob Evans restaurant at that junction is gone, the land is cleared. Loved the breakfast there.

It does sound fantastic doesn't it, we can't wait for them to get on with the building, they seem to have taken an age clearing the land but once they get started on building it usually moves fairly quickly. We are looking forward to taking a close look on our next visit.[msnsmile]

Is that the Bob Evans Restaurant by the Best Western hotel, we ate there in august a few times, my son loves it as they do mini cheeseburgers with smiley men.

Yep, that's the one. The hotel is closed, but still there. Being refurbished I think.

We were told this year, by a local Floridian, that they don't expect to start it until 2006. I was under the impression when I went that it had been finished - guess I didn't read all the posts properly!!! I was SO looking forward to some more retail therapy (as if I don't get enough when over there already!!).[msnsmile2]

Gosh they must have taken it down fast as I only came back last thursday and I'm sure it was still there then but then I'm getting old so might have missed it[msneek]

You FL news hounds out there may have already seen this, but it looks like even MORE shopping opportunities on 27. By my estimate this would somewhere after Denny's and before the Cracker Barrel north of I4.

"A large-scale shopping center with restaurants and a movie theater has been proposed in the so-far mostly untapped retail market of Four Corners -- one of Central Florida's fastest-growing areas.

At more than 1 million square feet, the proposed open-air shopping venue -- to be called Four Corners Town Center -- would be one of the larger shopping centers in the Orlando area. It is planned for land just off heavily traveled U.S. Highway 27 about a mile north of Interstate 4 in Polk County.

Regional and county planners have not approved the development, which would have a town-center design similar to Winter Park Village, said Brian W. Sodt, a consultant to the Central Florida Regional Planning Council.

Attempts to contact the property's developer, Joe Griffith Inc. of Charleston, S.C., were unsuccessful Thursday.

The developer has asked for about 1.2 million square feet for retail space and about 45,000 square feet for a 16-screen movie theater at the location, which is just south of Ronald Reagan Parkway, also known as County Road 54.

If approved, Four Corners Town Center would be double the size of Winter Park Village and about the same size as Waterford Lakes Town Center, which opened in east Orange County in 1999.

Sodt said the planning council could give Polk County commissioners a recommendation about the development by January or February.

Two public hearings will be held regarding the project, and the Polk County Commission will make the final decision, Sodt said.

Polk officials have asked the developer to donate about 5 acres to the Sheriff's Office so a district command center could be built adjacent to an existing fire department and EMS station.

Because the project would be in a highly traveled residential area, the county is also working with the developer to expedite improvements to the intersection of Ronald Reagan Parkway and U.S. 27, said Erik Peterson, a Polk County planner.

If approved, the town center would be the first major shopping area in the area known as Four Corners, where Orange, Osceola, Polk and Lake counties meet.

An estimated 150,000 people live in the area now. By 2020, officials project, another 200,000 people will live there, giving Four Corners almost as many people as Seminole County has today.

"While I can't confirm or deny any development plans in the area . . . it's safe to say big boxes and restaurants will be highly valued," said Tom Patton, executive director of the Central Florida Development Council. "With such potential developments going on there and other parts of northeast Polk County, I think you're going to see a lot more of that coming in the future."

The property's location will likely ensure the development's success, Patton said.

"I have no doubt in my mind developments in that area will do extremely well," he said. "Traffic counts at I-4 and [U.S.] 27 are the highest counts in the county. There are massive people passing by there."

While residential property has boomed in Four Corners, some residents say commercial growth has not kept pace.

Except for Wal-Mart, there are no big-box retailers in the area. Casual-dining restaurants are limited.

Wow, this Posner Park stuff sounds really exciting. More shopping on our doorstep, but seriously, what an asset to our Florida homes. This area just keeps on growing.
