    using travellers cheques

    i`ve been to florida before and always carried around my passport for i.d. as some shops ask for it when paying with travellers cheques. does anyone know if it would be alright to carry a photocopy of passport instead?

    Do you have the new photo driviing license as this will do -if not a photocopy is generally accepted but I believe it is illegal to photo copy it in colour -not 100% sure on that .

    Have you considered using the new American Express PrePaid Card?

    It works the same as T/Checks, except you just sign for your purchases or use a pin number.
    You can also draw cash from the machines with it too!

    Diane got one before we went this time and found it really easy to use. Also there is no need to carry around any ID for it.

    They had some offers on it too, If she put on $700, American Express added $50 for free, but this may have stopped now.

    We use them all the time in the shops and never had to produce a passport or photo id. I do carry my driving licenece around with me in case if ever requested to produce it.

    My dad used to carry a slide rule with him to work out the exchange rate when he used them - calculators were not invented in those days.

    Seriously, can anyone tell me the advantages of using Travelller's cheques in the USA over credit/debit cards?

    I only take a few hundred pounds worth of TC's as they are handy but I use my credit card for most purchases. I only got asked once to show any ID and I had my photo driving license with me.

    Magical Dreams, I read somewhere on this forum many months ago that card was not a good idea as there were a lot of built in charges.

    I still use travellers cheques, although I do take my credit card. I would only use my card for more expensive purchasers.
