Ok, my mom who is 60 went on the runaway train in Disney as her first coaster, then spalsh mountain last December. She is now returning for her second trip to Disney. I think starting someone on a gentle coaster and then the bigger ones is the way to go. Then don't force them let them decide to go on if they wish.

I am absolutely terrified of roller coasters, screamed my head off in the kids one at Warner Bros World here on the Gold Coast...hahahah

However I have stupidly promised my daughter I will go on Rock N Roller Coaster AND Tower of Terror when we looked them up over the weekend. Am I going to regret my bravado when it comes to doing it.......? *trembles*

You might be okay on Tower of Terror. Stuart who detests roller coasters with a passion can cope with this ride because all it does is go up and down although it does stop suddenly and jerk you a bit. If you can brave it Rock N Roller Coaster is fantastic, has to be my favourite.

I think it's counter productive trying to persuade people to go on rides they're patently terrified of beforehand. If you do manage to persuade then and they hate every minute of it, you could put them off for life. You either like being terrified out of your wits or you don't and some people just don't.

I'm a super coaster wimp - I do go on some rides but one look and I can tell if I'm going to enjoy it or not - I know my limitations!

We actually use Goofy's Barnstormer for then the children want to try a roller coaster for the first time. It is over in like 3 seconds. My 7 year old tried it for the first time and went on it 4 times! After that, she tried Splash mountain.

Well I love them and Stuart hates them with a vengeance. If the other half can be persuaded to try one, go for one with a small queue as the longer they have to wait to get on, the more chance they will back out before they get there. Try to pick one that is not too scarey - my eldest started with the Hulk and though he said he loved it and was really proud of himself, he has stuck to the smaller ones since.

We are just back from Florida (without the kids) and took half a day out from setting up our place to go to Busch to try the new vertical drop coaster, Sheikra. I had to try it on my own and chose the front row and it was awesome! Just for comparison purposes I tried the third row and it was still scarey, and I only screamed half the way down the first drop rather than all the way down. Not one to try as a first timer though!!

Like Blottie has said, it's not a good idea to try and force people onto rides - however if you have a slightly hesitant prospective rider then Rock n roller coaster is a good starter, personally there isn't enough tea in China to get me on the hulk, dualling dragons, kraken and the like, but I love all the Disney rides, although I have to say Goofy's Barnstormer maybe a short ride but it's really bumpy[msnscared]

I may try and persuade my youngest to give this a go, he is just at that stage where he wants to try but just can't pluck up the courage.[msnsmile]

Could take a while to move out of that stage though Sarah, I have been at the point of I want to "Try" these types of rides for about....ummmmm...14 years now!![msnwink]
Hasn't stopped us going, and hasn't taken any of the love of theme parks away, so that is good[msnwink]
