It sounds like a must. I have wondered about it before, but after reading the above it is high on the agenda. Thanks for that, Chloe

I thought I might revive this topic by posting a question.
We are going to be in Florida next August, and we were thinking of planning a trip to St. Augustine. Can anyone recommend a hotel or really nice guest house that is close to the centre and night time restaurants? We may leave the kids at the hotel in the evening, so I wouldn't want to be too far away. I have heard that there is a haunted hotel in St. Augustine, but I don't know the name of it. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Nuala

Ravino trip report had loads of information Nuala. I am thinking of spending a couple of days there in November before the villa is free
We drive to St Austine from Daytona and it is a long ride along the coast road ,We always have lunch there and then watch for the Dolfins as they come at feeding times so it well worth a visit .

We stayed in a guest house-completely different to the UK-We had a room with an enormous 4 poster bed a massive walk in shower and a spa bath-every afternoon we were invited into the main house for cake wine and beer-the town is self is delightful and a change from the hustle and bustle of the parks-I'd definitely go back.
We did the coastal road drive up on our way to Atlanta in May this year and stayed for 2 nights at the Casa Monica, which was very luxurious and is right in the city centre. There is a fascinating amount of historical information and sites to explore if you are that way inclined, and the coastal road gives you the opportunity to see some wonderful scenery and lots of wildlife.
Thanks for that, everybody. We are interested in both the St. Francis Inn and Casa Monica, and I am sure that we will be making the trip next August.[msnsmile]

I have just booked St Francis Inn for two nights, so will let you know. It's not cheap, but a nice break before rolling up the sleeves at the villa [msnsmile2]
We stayed at the St Francis Inn about 4 years ago and enjoyed it very much. You need to stay in the old part of the house not the newer parts. The snack they did each day were welcome after a long walk about the town. However we did not see their ghost.
You should book a place on one of the nightly ghost walking tours, it was one of the best we have ever been on.
