We like to visit Downtown Orlando on a Sunday morning for a walk around Lake Eola in Eola Park. This is where the swan boats are and the fountain in the middle of the lake is also a well known landmark.

At one end of the lake you can also see the memorial stone to "Orlando Reeves" (think I've got the surname right) who gave the city its name (he was a soldier who was killed by the local Indians).

You will find the locals out walking their dogs, jogging, reading the Sunday papers - it's really peaceful and relaxing. Parking is pretty easy as many of the streets around the park have meters that are free on Sundays.

Once you're done there you can combine it with a side trip to Winter Park (a short drive away) where you see Orlando's posh shops and cafe society. There is also a boat trip around the lakes where you get to see the expensive houses and estates from the water.

If you're looking for a change to the theme parks, it really is quite a contrast.

    Hi Mark,

The Science Museum in Orlando is definitely worth a trip and I'd second the suggestion by Andy about a look around Winter Park and a cruise round the lake and canal system. (I'd leave the credit card at home though - the shops ain't Walmart prices!!)[msnwink]. The city itself is pretty much like most other cities around the world, mostly skysc-r-a-p-e-r buildings, banks, insurance companies and offices.

The whole Winter Park area is lovely to walk around, never mind the shops and restaurants on Park Ave

The Morse Museum, with its collection of Tiffany glass is a fabulous place to spend a few hours as well...
