Ray has been asked for ID several times whilst in the US, and even he admits that no way could he be taked for under 21, they just tell him its policy, makes him feel good at the time though, bless.

All this is depressing me! I'm 36 but I've never been asked for ID in the last 7 years.

    Must look really old!!!

We were in Bennigans with our daughter and her friend, aged 21 and 22 two weeks ago. They had photo ID - UK Driving Licences, plus Abbi had Florida ID with photo. We ordered a meal and they ordered their drinks, which were refused by the server, who then brought the Manager over. He refused to serve them unless he saw their passports, which unfortunately they had left in our villa.

Despite being with parents, and having photo ID they were very strict, so it was coke and water all round. They have both been living in the US for a year and have had no trouble in Boca Raton, where a UK Driving Licence is a rare sight. Strangely enough, you would have thought that in a huge tourist area like Orlando, where Brits are commonplace, a UK Driving Licence would have been sufficient.

They are very sensitive as they do face huge fines, and licences being withdrawn, so it is understandable, just a bit frustrating.

This was their only problematic experience, but it might be wise to have your passport with you, too.

i cant help but think they are a little harsh in america. yes i dont agree with underage drinking etc but your parents can get in trouble if you buy them alcohol? they should be allowed to drink at home without any come back.

i think 18 is a suitable age to be able to purchase and consume alcohol.

Personally i think we should adopt some of the measures they use in US. Our towns and Cities in the UK are fast becoming full of young drunken youths. Most of the crime at weekends in these areas is alcohol related.
