We haven't eaten there as there is precious little for vegetarians - but the shop is quaint and outside they have traditional rocking chairs that you can try out very a la The Waltons.

We make a point of going to Cracker Barrel each visit. I love the atmosphere and its great to be able to have some mash and vegetables. We love the giftshop too which is very 'country' style.

I believe there are quite a few of these about but have only visited the one on the 192 quite near Splendid China area.

Has anyone been to any others - if so how do they compare?

Tell me about it, John. Nothing at all for veggies! My son ended up with a plate of all the side order vegetable dishes. No veggie option at all and it was the best they could offer. Stuff like mash and dumplings with no gravy. Ugh!! I dont think wild horses would drag him in there again. Meatloaf for the meat eaters was good. Huqe queues to go in and obviously popular with the locals.

That sounds like the first time I went to Ireland with the day job in 1992 - my MD took me out for a meal at this really swish restaurant in the posh part of town not realising it specialised in steak (the menu was basically steak, steak and steak).

All I got was a plate of steamed vegetables which was just awful. Ended up leaving most of it and having a liquid dinner (Guinness) instead .

I'm happy to say that Ireland caters very well for us veggies now with lots of choice on the menus anywhere you go!
